Mobile River Lab, 2022. Mary Mattingly in collaboration with Confluence MFA students, installed at the South Street Seaport, New York City

Mobile River Lab is a temporary installation conceived by Mary Mattingly and installed at New York’s South Street Seaport in July 2022 to mark the City of Water day. Students in the Confluence MFA program created tools for experiencing New York’s waterways as components of the installation. My piece Fathoming Deep Time (You Are Here) asks viewers to reflect on how the land they’re standing on has changed over millions of years. I created a new iteration of this piece–a sound-based guided visualization designed to be experienced on the shores of Cook Inlet–for Mattingly’s River Labs installation at the Anchorage Museum as part of the exhibition How to SurviveMobile River Lab is part of the River Labs initiative.
