At the beginning of this year, my egg tempera paintings and paper sculptures made on site at Council Rock, in Lorimer Park, were part of Interconnected, an Artessa Alliance group show at Awbury Arboretum. The show featured artwork by Brenda Howell, Colleen Hammond, Elena Drozdova, Julia Way, Karen Hunter McLaughlin, Kim Mehler, Megan Raab Greenholt, Nancy Agati, Nathalie Borozny, and me, reflecting each artist’s relationship with the more-than-human world.
Awbury’s Cope House Gallery is the perfect location for an exhibition of work inspired by the natural world. Some works are based on close observation of nature; others are inspired by natural forms and systems. Many incorporate foraged and natural materials. Located in the historic Germantown neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia, Awbury Arboretum is a verdant oasis in the middle of the city. Once the private enclave of an extended Quaker family, Awbury Arboretum has been open to the public free of charge as a public park and arboretum for over 100 years.
